Outing to Coombe Trenchard
Wednesday 14th September 2016
Twenty members and guests of the society visited Coombe Trenchard, an Edwardian Arts and Crafts house near Lewdown on a beautiful warm and sunny afternoon in September.
The owner Sarah Marsh, gave us a most interesting tour and talk about the house and its fascinating features, including explaining the very clever mechanism of the ‘disappearing’ wall – a wall which can divide two rooms or be lowered through the floor. Everyone enjoyed wandering round the gardens which are being gradually restored and have lovely views of surrounding farmland.
Tea and delicious homemade biscuits were enjoyed in the glorious sunshine on the terrace. The weather was a real bonus.

Summer Social Evening
Thursday 26th May 2016
This year’s social evening took place in a member’s garden near Yelverton on 26th May.
Approximately 27 members were present. The garden was beautiful with a sheltered planted area near the house full of colour and a variety of trees, shrubs, and plants with much variety and interest. There was a well-tended vegetable plot and greenhouse and then the garden merged into a delightful extensive grassy area with mown paths through the longer grass and lovely trees and shrubs; some in flower and with beautiful views of farmland across the valley. Our hosts had been working very hard!
A converted stable area with decking provided an ideal place for the enjoyment of drinks and delicious nibbles kindly provided by the committee. Eventually ‘rain stopped play’ but not before all had enjoyed a delightful evening.
