Garden Visit

Trelissick House & Garden and Pinsla Garden

Thursday 12th May 2016

The recent annual spring coach outing proved to be most successful, with 22 members and friends enjoying a jolly, if slightly damp, day.  Leaving Dousland at 9:00 am in the safe hands of Pam, our regular driver, we spent the morning at the interesting garden and cottage of Pinsla Garden and Nursery, near Bodmin.  After coffee or tea, excellent home-made cake and an introductory chat from Claire & Mark Woodbine, the rain had eased so that the multitude of plants and flowers of many varieties could be viewed, even if from under an umbrella.  Also noted were the various ornaments and homely objects dotted about.  Evidence of the marvellous show of Camellias, just a week or so previously, still carpeted the grounds, and the extensive collection of nursery plants tempted several purchases.

A long run through Cornwall brought us to Trelissick House & Garden, near Truro, and showed the delights of the spring, including very fine Bluebells along the hedge banks.  Brenda & Martin Burt and Kay Moore took several photos hoping that the cloudy but bright sky would enable the precise colours to be captured.  These will be added to this page soon.  Then you can judge their success.

All enjoyed easy strolls along excellent paths to view another extensive collection of very mixed shrubs and mature trees with glimpses of the Fal estuary.  Trelissick House focuses on framing the rooms with a view.  There is also a wonderful display of Spode plates, and an art gallery of gorgeous paintings and sculptures.  Further temptations were aroused by the tea room, plants sales and the large stock of quality second-hand books.

The visit ended with singing of the traditional song in celebration of the birthday of Christine Watterson, yet more cake, provided by Sonja Cheadle, and a jolly photoshoot.  Although the sun made a welcome appearance on the way home, some were oblivious as they slept happily after an excellent day.
