Summer Show Report 2015

Saturday 8th August 2015

Meavy Garden Society members were blessed with a beautiful day for their Summer Flower Show last Saturday. There were high standard entries in all eighteen classes for cut flowers, flowering plants, flower arrangements, vegetables, herbs and two special classes. One, sponsored by the Royal Oak Inn, was for a tankard containing garden flowers; while the other was a child’s arrangement of garden flowers in a jam-jar.

Joice Reith, David Carter, Stephen Pine and Cathy Persuad spent a quiet afternoon selling plants donated by members, while inside Meavy Parish Hall there was quite a crowd.

Welcomed by Michael Ashton the general public enjoyed recording their personal vote for the best exhibit in each class, and chatting to friends while partaking of scrumptious cakes & cream scones, before the raffle draw and the announcement of the winners in each class, computed by Jenny Sharp.

Trophy presented by Michael ParleThe trophies were presented by the Guest-of-Honour Michael Parle, well known for his services to many volunteer organisations in Meavy and beyond.

Michael is shown here presenting one of many trophies won by Kay Moore.

The energetic ladies who had served all the goodies were much saddened when a considerable value in notes disappeared during the presentation of the trophies.  Otherwise, the show was a great success both financially and in entertainment terms.

Organisation of the day was by David Winter, helped by too many to name individually who assisted during the setting up on Friday evening and helped in many ways to ensure the smooth running and clearance of the show.
